Gotta start using the bracket order šŸ‘€

Note: Trading is hard, results not guaranteed and should not be expected to be replicated typically.

If you missed it, thatā€™s your bad ā†’ donā€™t miss JWā€™s next MONSTER šŸ‘¹

Hey Folks!

Last week proved a difficult market to trade, for sure. After chopping sideways for most of the week, everything melted up into Fridayā€™s close.

The question is: Why?

If you only look at stocks, then you would think weā€™re in a fresh bull market.  But, if you look under the hood at the economy in general, things donā€™t look good at all.

Consumers are gloomy about the economy and persistent inflation. All eyes are on earnings and the next government shutdown showdown next weekā€¦

And ā€¦ THIS šŸ‘‡dropped conveniently on Friday after the market closed:

ā€œBREAKING NEWS: MOODYā€™S CUTS USA OUTLOOK TO NEGATIVE, CITING HIGHER INTEREST RATES AND DEFICITSā€

Actually, I know exactly why markets melted up ā€“ theyā€™re seeing something POSITIVE in a potential government default. Say what, Jeff???

Iā€™ve been talking about the ridiculousness of this in my new X account (PS donā€™t judge me for only having 30 followers, it took me two months to navigate the Twitter maze)!

In this upside-down market, investors have consistently been making hay on the bad and sulking in the corner on the good.

No matter how backwards that is,  Iā€™m not letting that stop me from trading.

After all, what are we going to doā€¦not trade?

Yeah Sammy J, what?!?

Because of all the craziness, I am NOT finding a lot of success lately with my preferred method of holding positions for a week or more.  Stocks are moving too violently during the day, so I am modifying my strategy just a tad for the time being.

With markets moving so quickly, I am still relying on my core option selling strategy, but I am looking at making trades I can hold for hoursā€¦ not days.

While I might go a full day without looking at positions I am holding for weeks at a time, I have a rule about day trading: I donā€™t leave a day trade unmonitored.

Things are too wild during the day, and just stepping away for a few minutes can lead to a big loss if Iā€™m not careful.

When I want to set up a stop loss for a trade, but also grab a profit on it, then I use what is called a ā€œbracketed trade.ā€

With this type of trade, the system will automatically trigger my order for whatever happens first.

I took a screenshot of the trade I made this week as an example for you of how that works.

Using this type of trade, I can still use my same, high-probability type of trading. I just condense the outcome to hours, instead of days.

You can see that I set up the order above to either have a 45% stop loss or a 45% profit (fortunately, the profit side hit!).

By doing this, I am pairing what I already know is a high-probability type of trade with what I think is a high-probability technical setup.

I have been winning more than 70% of the time on these trades if you look at my trading journal (contact Jeff Brown at [email protected] for free access to that journal!)

This means that if I set both my stop loss and profit targets to the same amount, then the math says I should make money over time ā€“ and thatā€™s exactly what I can do using a bracket order.

That is why I am so eager to set these trades up often!

Members in our live trading room, like my buddy Charlie, are starting to get the picture tooā€¦

ā€œGotta start utilizing the bracket orderā€¦ā€ ā€“ Yes, Charlie!
